What is an Avocado?

According to Google, an avocado is a pear-shaped fruit with a leathery skin and a creamy, smooth texture is a member of the flowering plant family Lauraceae. The avocado is a very different and unique kind of fruit as we mostly associate fruit as being sweet.

Many people still debate that the avocado is a vegetable as it is savoury but funny enough it is classified as a fruit! Fruits are plants that contain seeds and can be eaten as food while a vegetables are made up of stalks, roots and leaves.

Something that took me by surprise was that the avocado is actually a berry, quite different to your normal strawberry and raspberry but weirdly enough is a berry with one large seed! Avocados are grown on trees in warm climates and are native to Mexico but can be found are sold all over the world. They are well known for their healthy fats and nutrients that no other fruit has.
